VEEP REVIEWED
“Veep” revamps itself quite successfully in its fourth year. Introducing Huge Laurie into the cast and shuffling Selena’s team creates something fresh. Especially, since Selina is right back into campaigning due to the fact that she’s only got six months left in her predecessor’s term. The now-President Meyer is truly a despicable person that represents the best of Iannucci’s TV work. You can’t hate her, but you don’t have to love her.
Feeding off the new awfulness is Diedrich Bader in a surprising turn as a campaign manager. Not as outwardly comical as his bigger roles, he offers something new to the series. He’s a self righteous dolt, but with enough forward thinking to be dangerous. What bothers me is that since Iannucci left at the end of this season, I’m worrying about creative drop-off. It’s a hell of a cast, but something’s got to give. Can an HBO comedy stay this good for this long?
