SLITHER REVIEWED
“Slither” finally comes to American Blu-ray. Plus, it’s an actual 1080p transfer. The old HD-DVD that Universal put out was only 1080i. For all horror fans and people that follow cult cinema, the deal is known by now. A meteorite smacks into Earth, Michael Rooker gets infected. What follows are squid monsters, slugs and people swelling up like ticks. It mimics “Night of the Creeps” more than anything else, but somehow it finds something really Yuzna about it.
The insane amount of special features that Shout dumped onto this release is quite stunning. The new commentary and interviews are quite fun for people who are fans of the film. It’s nice to hear that James Gunn keeps this film in such high personal regard. While a lot of other web people are starting to sour on it, I’d have to say that it works the best for me out of his original properties. Plus, I love that ending. I wasn’t a Nathan Fillion before that ending, but that ending got me to rewatch Firefly.
