Does the screwball comedy still work?
“She’s Funny That Way” is Peter Bogdanovich coasting on modern talent that wants to work with a former 70s superstar. What he does is try to recycle the kind of films that marked his decline in that era. How many more times do we need yet another New York story about actors and actress and other entertainment folk coming together in shared psychosis? Basically, everyone wants to bone everyone else. This time, it’s with wacky dialogue!
For a film that was rated R, I had a hard time finding any major reason for the rating. Sure, there was some saucy language, but it’s not like it stood out. The same can be said for most of this film. The Blu-Ray comes with a commentary, featurettes, photo gallery and trailers as the special features. The A/V Quality boasts a strong 1080p transfer and a rather flat DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track.
