Roger Waters makes music when he's not pissing off Howard Stern.
“Roger Waters: The Wall” is a live concert film. Well, it’s a concert film that cuts a group’s music to fit a solo performer. The film is well directed and plays across stage and private recording to show what makes The Wall work. It’s a concept film that wants you to feel what Waters felt during the album’s creation. Even if it involves a prolonged road trip.
While you do get the feel of a rock concert, you get the feel of a concert aimed at older people. If you’re expecting “Into the Never”, this won’t be that release. This is a far more melancholy piece that could easily pair with “The Wall” feature film. Disregard recent issues with Waters and you’ll find yourself taking pity on a man who obviously has never recovered childhood trauma. You shouldn’t expect to hear a ton about the rest of the band.
The Blu-Ray comes with a Digital HD copy, full HD Facebook films, live performances at the O2, featurettes and time lapses as the special features. The A/V Quality is reference quality and I wish I covered this release before our Holiday Guide went live. The 1080p transfer is flawless and then there’s the Dolby Atmos TrueHD 5.1 mix. This is my first time with a mix intended to blend that way and I want every disc to sound as amazing as this release. Dear Lord, this is one of the most amazing sounding discs of 2015. If you’re on the fence, just buy it.
