“Revenge of the Mekons” is about a never-ending band from Leeds that started in British Punk and became something else. Watching a bunch of socialist art students operate in a musical collective was insane. Unfortunately, that means we also get the talking heads discussing their lack of success over the decades. The film asks what matters more to an art experiment: money or cult fame? I’ve seen this stuff covered before, but it works for what it is.
The DVD comes with bonus performances, bonus outtakes, interviews and a concert poster gallery as the special features. The A/V Quality is sharp for a music documentary. At times, the transfer was a little messy for standard definition. It was nothing major, but I could still figure out what was going on. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to the curious.
