“Pulsating Flesh” and “Super Sex” confirms my suspicions that Vinegar Syndrome bought every Tobalina film ever made. For a guy that I didn’t know existed two months ago, I feel like I’ve seen his life’s work. That life was made up of early 80s landing strips and tons of buxom women. But, you also had the stylings of a director that wanted to ape Hitchcock and erotic cinema.
“Super Sex” is a psych influenced sex romp where hypnotism allows for pseudo Freaky Friday antics. This seemed like an effort to double up shots without paying two actresses. “Pulsating Flesh” is a hard riff on the John Hughes aesthetic. There’s not much of a plot, but you keep expecting a baby faced John Cusack to show up for a two line cameo. Honestly, the feel of the film left me feel icky.
The DVD comes with the original trailers as the special features. The A/V Quality is amazing as the 2K restoration was taken from the original negative. The transfers are smooth for standard definition, as well as the audio tracks. I just wish we could’ve received a Blu release since these titles came from the latter half of the 1980s and appear to have been shot on high stock film. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to the curious.
