“Lightspeed Rescue” gets a proper complete series release for Power Rangers fans out there. Sadly, I’m not one of them. I chalk it up more to an age thing, as I’ve been trying to follow the franchise in its various incarnations. The difference here is that the five Rangers work out of a hydrobase to beat up Diabolico. That’s it.
The Rangers seem to come from First Response backgrounds, but nothing of that powers the super powered side of the series. The Zords in this series are man-made. Plus, the Rangers are known by all that meet them. I guess no secret identities and the push for realism makes this the edgy incarnation.
The DVD comes with no special features. The A/V Quality is solid for a show like this. The standard definition transfer is supportive. The same goes for the Dolby Surround track. Outside of there, I wonder if there’s an HD master out there for the material. In the end, I’d recommend a rental to the curious.
