MANHUNT: UNABOMBER REVIEWED
“Manhunt: Unabomber” is a nearly 6 hour look into how the FBI caught the Unabomber. This was one of the first major cases I followed when I became a newshound, so I enjoy getting to see it get the film treatment. What sucks is that so much emphasis is placed on the modern adventures of the FBI analyst that caught Ted Kaczynski. Paul Bettany does an amazing job as the titular Unabomber, it’s just that he gets buried inside of this 8 part work.
Sam Worthington isn’t a bad actor, it’s just that the film/TV series event doesn’t know what to do with him outside of analysis and capture. The manhunt for Kaczynski lasted through two decades and involved many University, Airline and public targets. The reasons for his targets and the delays in between bombing runs get superficial attention paid to them. Hell, why is almost a fifth of this movie about the guy that caught him? I get that he helped produce, but take a step back.
That being said, I’m loving that the basic cable channels are really getting onboard with major events like this. Everyone has a hard time to catch up to FXX, but Discovery is getting there.
