“Looney Tunes: Musical Masterpieces” is a stunning music themed collection that proves to the world that Freleng and Chuck Jones were genius. Whether it’s Michigan J. Frog, Bugs and Elmer doing opera or a little Owl getting down to a Jazz tune, there’s something here for everybody. However, most of the classical references might be lost on kids. I recommend watching it with your little ones and working with them to answer questions about musical styles as they appear.

The shorts run the gamut, but they stay pretty well known for the most part. Going through my Platinum Collection and Golden Collection, I want to say that I have all but one short already on a prior WB release. But, this DVD isn’t meant for the super collector. It’s a fun themed jaunt to keep interest in the Golden Oldies alive. Hell, I got more mileage out of the Sing-A-Long than the shorts, but that’s OK.

The DVD comes with featurettes and a sing-a-long as the special features. The A/V Quality is strong due to most of these shorts being remastered for Blu-Ray and DVD. Hell, watching through these old shorts makes me wish that WB kept it up with the Platinum Collection releases. Such a pity and a waste. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to fans of classic animation.
