“Legions of the Dead Morituris” wants to be an early to mid 70s Drive-In exploitation flick in the worst way. A woman gets violated with a pair of scissors, rape is used without reason and the blood flows. That being said, it has that Eurotrash stench of three barely connected acts that feel like setups to more murder. Then, there’s the zombie Gladiators. The look is cool, but their purpose never is explained to satisfaction.
Sergio Stivaletti shows that his FX have not missed a beat since the Demons era. The film plays under 90 minutes, but I could’ve done with it being 10 minutes shorter. There was a time when this was the kind of movie that I would’ve spent many weekends watching. Now, I just want a narrative. I don’t mind gore, I just need a reason for it.
The Blu-Ray comes with the original trailer and reversible cover art as the special features. The A/V Quality is strong for an underground foreign horror flick. The 1080p transfer plays dark, but works well. The DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track is expansive, but without much clarity. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to the interested.
