“The Last Survivors” takes place in the future wasteland of Oregon. The world is dry, as no rain has fallen in a decade. Haley Lu Richardson stars a teenager fighting to survive and save her home from gas mask clad goons. What can she do against such oppressive enemies? Bitch about finding auto parts, worry about her handicapped brother and manage to forget that the Pacific Ocean is West of her location.
Between Jon Gries, Barbara Crampton and the setting…I thought I died when back in time about 25 years. The giant jumps in logic and the shaky second half remind of another age. But, we now have people that live to shoot holes through things like this. I enjoy a good depressing fantasy as much as the next guy. I want to believe in the world of the film. It’s shaky here.
The Blu-Ray comes with two commentaries, deleted scenes, slide show, trailer, audition reel and a featurette as the special features. The A/V Quality is strong for a low budget feature. The 1080p transfer is bright, yet gritty. The DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track pushes all channels to create an immersive environment. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to the curious.
