About “I’m A Virgo”
“I’m A Virgo” narrates the whimsically dark and comedic tale of Cootie, a 13-foot-tall young Black man living in Oakland, California, masterfully portrayed by Jerome. Cootie’s upbringing is steeped in the world of comic books and TV shows, hidden away from the vibrant contradictions of the real world.
As Cootie breaks free to explore life beyond his confines, he experiences friendship, discovers love, and crosses paths with his idol, a real-life superhero named The Hero, brought to life by Walton Goggins (“The Hateful Eight,” “The Righteous Gemstones”). “I’m A Virgo” is a mythological odyssey that profoundly questions the essence of the odyssey itself.
Joining the cast are Brett Gray, Kara Young, Allius Barnes, Olivia Washington, Mike Epps, and Carmen Ejogo. Their unique backgrounds and talents create a captivating ensemble cast that truly brings the series to life.
“I’m A Virgo” is a collaborative effort between Amazon Studios and Media Res Studio, with Boots Riley and Tze Chun (“Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai”) as the series’ co-showrunners and executive producers. They are joined by executive producers Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer from Media Res Studio, Jharrel Jerome, and Rebecca Rivo. The series features a soulful and original music score by the art-pop duo Tune-Yards.
