NOSFERATU THE VAMPYRE
“Nosferatu the Vampyre” is a film about atmosphere and feeling than gore. Klaus Kinski is electric, as Herzog pushes him to use his weirdness to show a terrible creature onscreen. There’s nothing in his movement that suggests humanity, as Kinski’s every move puts Max Schreck to shame. Shooting on location in Germany, Kinski gets to slink around the screen as an undead beast who has made peace with what he will be forever. Nosferatu only bares his fangs once, but that scene has more power than the last decade of vampire movies.
The film comes with two commentary tracks, vintage featurette and trailers as the special features. Many fans complained about the A/V Quality from the May 2014 standalone release. Well, kids…it’s the same disc. I don’t see any of the problems that they referenced, as it looks like every print I’ve ever seen of the movie. Maybe they expected something different.
