LESSONS OF DARKNESS
“Lessons of Darkness” was a companion piece to “Fata Morgana” and it was very timely. Clocking in around an hour, Herzog examined the world of war and technology that makes it possible. If you’re expecting a narrative, then you haven’t been paying attention. Everything presented in the film is shown as alien without any context. The oil fields burn and everything appears to be without the absence of human operators. You might see some victims here and there, but it feels almost like Terence Malick directed Maximum Overdrive.
The film comes with no special features. But, the A/V Quality is cleaned up to show off new aspects of the transfer that I’ve never seen. The 1080p transfer is pretty clean and shows off its age. The DTS-HD 2.0 master audio track carries the dialogue that it needs to do. That’s the best you can expect.
