“Gemma Bovery” tries its hardest to be about something and ends up being about nothing. Gemma Arterton moves to an old farmhouse in Normandy, as the locals note their similarities between her situation and the book “Madame Bovary”. The film serves as a modern mash-up of that tragic romance and the contemporary desire to find suitable love. I never read the graphic novel by Posy Simmonds, but I can see why Arterton keeps matching up with her work. The duo has an amazing flow and she brings out the beats in the narrative. The DVD comes with featurettes, graphic novel gallery and a trailer as the special features.
