THE GATE II REVIEWED
“The Gate II” only played in 350 theaters in America. Naturally, fans probably saw this on HBO before elsewhere. It’s where I first watched the movie and all I remember is the demonic money turning to shit at the restaurant. Coming back to the film roughly 25 years later shows that it plays a lot shorter than I remember. Also, Pamela Adlon is the love interest in this one. How did I not know this happened? Also, what was the deal with bringing Terry back?
I get that he wants demonic powers to fix his family, but he lacks the dynamic that drove the first film. This film plays King Dork trying to hang with the cool and the tiny demons that haunt his teen years. The dark demonic world betrays the budget, but I don’t know what they went out on a limb for those shots. That being said, it’s a great little movie that deserves your cult horror attention. Just don’t watch it immediately after the first movie.
This one can’t help but pale in comparison to the original.
