Gamera vs. Guiron [Gamera Collection review]

Gamera vs. Guiron might be my second favorite Gamera movie. I don’t know what happened when the Gamera movies starting making kids into the lead characters, but it got weird. This time, a monster movie is happening in the second plot. But, the first plot is about alien women shaving kids’ heads to eat their brains. You read that correctly.

Gamera vs. Guiron [Gamera Collection review] 1

Guiron is a blip of a threat. Technically, the big threat of the film is a silver Gyaos. Throughout the film, the story might seem slightly familiar. That’s because it’s a Grimm Fairy Tale set in the Japanese Pop Art 60s milieu. Sure, you get aliens and Kaiju monsters and other junk.

But, this is a movie about little kids getting involved in things beyond their understanding. Hell, the film ends with Gamera returning the children to their mothers. It’s pretty sweet if you think about it.

gamera vs. guiron 2

Gamera vs. Guiron is an essential part of the Gamera Collection. You get the alternate versions, featurettes, trailers and all of that good stuff. Arrow follows a certain formula and it works well. But, there comes a point of diminishing results. That’s why I’m covering the 90s films dead last.

Gamera vs. Guiron is available August 18th
