FOR THE LOVE OF BENJI REVIEWED
“For the Love of Benji” is probably my least favorite Benji movie. It used to be “Oh, Heavenly Dog” and then I finally rewatched this one. While it didn’t bother me as a kid, I find the movie to be about 24 minutes of plot and an hour of dog watching. Modern animal lovers will have an issue with a stranger tattooing Benji’s paw. More people should have an issue with the CIA being confounded by a stray dog roaming around Greece. Disbelief is thrown out the window, as this film will blow any suspension you might wield.
I’m enjoying Mill Creek revisiting these movies. They are slices of quality G-rated cinema that deserve to be seen by more people. There’s a special kind of magic in these movies that while they don’t appeal to adults, it gives you a chance to revisit why you liked them as a kid. My daughter loves these movies, yet she hates the Netflix version. I’m not sure where kids draw the line in what they accept, but I guess that’s what defines the individual. Check it out.
