Celebrating Outré Films at Film Maudit 2.0
Film Maudit 2.0 returns for its fifth edition, celebrating bold, extreme, and confrontational films from around the world. Inspired by French artist Jean Cocteau’s 1949 festival, this unique showcase runs from June 12 to June 16, 2024, at Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica.
World & Los Angeles Premieres
This year’s lineup includes over 100 international films, featuring six feature film premieres and more than 90 shorts. Highlights include:
- World Premiere: Tiger Stripes by Amanda Nell Eu, an empowering feminist genre film and Malaysia’s official Oscar entry for Best International Feature Film.
- World Premiere: My Imaginary Life for Someone by Molly Wurwand and Ryan McGlade, a semi-mockumentary exploring mysteriously linked Los Angeles McMansions.
- L.A. Premiere: Hippo by Graeme Arnfield, an experimental documentary described as “an unholy fusion of A Clockwork Orange and Napoleon Dynamite” by RogerEbert.com.
- L.A. Premiere: Home Invasion by Mark H. Rapaport, a dark comedy essay film on the history of the doorbell.
- L.A. Premiere: The Belgian Wave by Jérôme Vandewattyne, set during the 1990s UFO sightings in Belgium.

Founded by Patrick Kennelly, Film Maudit 2.0 is inspired by Jean Cocteau’s original Festival du Film Maudit. The festival features narrative, documentary, and experimental films that challenge artistic norms and explore taboo subjects.
Kennelly, Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Film Maudit 2.0 and Highways, is an accomplished director in film, theater, and visual arts. His debut feature, Excess Flesh, premiered at SXSW and is available on DVD and streaming, with a Special Edition Blu-Ray from Terror Vision coming soon.
