Epic Pictures’ horror-focused label, DREAD, proudly presents its latest spine-chilling film, “The Hangman,” set to captivate horror enthusiasts with its unique blend of suspense and supernatural frights. This gripping narrative unfolds in the shadowy, enigmatic hills of rural Appalachia, where dark secrets lurk and terror reigns.
Starting May 31, “The Hangman” will be featured in select theaters, providing a thrilling cinematic experience for fans of the genre. For those who prefer the comforts of home viewing, the film will hit video-on-demand platforms on June 4, with pre-orders available on Apple iTunes beginning May 10.
This DREAD original, crafted in collaboration with Traverse Terror and under the executive production of Cole Payne, is an entirely self-financed endeavor by the independent studio. According to Epic Pictures CEO Patrick Ewald, “The Hangman” represents a significant achievement. “Working with Bruce, Cole, and LeJon has been a fantastic experience. In ‘The Hangman,’ fear takes on a palpable form as nightmares manifest anew,” Ewald excitedly shares.
Directed by Bruce Wemple, the film explores the desperate lengths a father will go to in order to rescue his son. Wemple notes, “We aimed to craft a story that delves into the intense, often terrifying efforts a father is willing to endure, including battling a demonic force from the depths of hell.”
“The Hangman” follows Leon, a middle-aged salesman, and his teenage son as they embark on a camping trip meant to mend their strained relationship. Unbeknownst to them, their journey to the remote Appalachians will thrust them into the heart of darkness. A sinister local cult has awakened The Hangman, a demon born from hate and agony, setting off a chilling chain of events. With his son mysteriously missing, Leon faces the harrowing task of confronting not just the cult but the malevolent entity they worship.
The film features a compelling cast, including LeJon Woods and Lindsey Dresbach, and is supported by a dedicated production team led by producers Vincent Conroy, Zach Wyles, and Dan Booke.
