Did you ever wonder what happens between Dead Rising 2 and 3?
“Dead Rising: Watchtower” is a film developed for SONY’s Crackle service that helped bridge the worlds of Dead Rising 2 and 3. Focusing on another Zombrex induced outbreak, we get to see what a real zombie outbreak would play out in real terms. Rob Riggle steals the show as Frank West (the hero of the first game). But, his quick cut news segments break up the flow of the main story.
It’s not like the main story had a ton going on. Jesse Metcalfe isn’t a convincing lead and Virginia Madsen looks bored to be in the movie. Eventually, Dennis Haysbert shows up and the carnage can begin. If you’re a fan of the weapon modding system, it comes up in the film in a neat way. However, it all feels like empty fan service that adds little visual panache.
The DVD comes with a blooper reel, featurettes and commentary as the special features. The A/V Quality is strong enough for a recent release. The standard definition transfer shows no signs of digital noise. Plus, the Dolby 5.1 track is loud and supportive. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to fans.
