PEOPLE PLEASER REVIEWED
Daniel Tosh recorded his “People Pleaser” special in July 2015 and we’re finally getting to see it. Tosh talks about his dust-up over a rape joke among other things. But, what makes Tosh work so well is his inability to give a damn. He’s one of the smartest comedians working today and he’s very aware of the mindset he’s hammering. It’s just a shame that his detractors can’t pick up on it. Given that this special runs slightly over an hour, hopefully it’s enough time to get the point across.
While I love Tosh’s live stuff, I’m not sure it’s the best venue for his work. The guy has a stage presence and he knows how to command an audience. It’s just that so many of his jokes require a visual component or faster pacing. When Tosh slows it down, it invites a naysayer to jump on the joke before its completion. Sure, that’s going to happen with many comedians. It just feels like that we’ve seen the performer work well in one venue, so why slum it back on the stage?
