THE PLOT THUS FAR

Holiday embraces familiar and new winter celebrations as part of our American experience with the handmade. Celebrate some of our most important cultural and religious customs and get inspired to discover your own creativity.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

“Craft in America: Holiday” is the latest in a long line of documentaries about crafting with creativity. Whether its gingerbread houses or mass Christmas decorations, this time of the year brings out a certain glee in American artisans. The documentary runs about an hour, but we get a great look at the differences in crafting across the nation. Harley Refsal is my favorite, as the woodcarver explains what’s going on alongside a decent history lesson. I would love to see a follow-up next year.

The DVD comes with no special features. The A/V Quality is on par for a PBS Documentary. Still, I wish we would get more of these releases in HD. But, I guess physical media is dying. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to the curious.
