I learned something about Jaco today.
“Jaco” is a fascinating documentary about bass guitar phenomenon Jaco Pastorius. If that name sounds familiar, then you already have strong opinions on Flea and other amazing bassists. The documentary presents unseen footage and material compiled by the Pastorius family. That being said, it’s mainly a mix of celeb rock star talking heads and an exploration of what led to Jaco’s demise.
The Blu-Ray is split across two discs with a ton of outtakes, anecdotes, interviews and other materials. The Dolby 5.1 track is slightly lossy, but it presents an amazing range. This is a film meant to be heard, so I wonder why we didn’t get a DTS or Dolby TrueHD track. Also, did the Jaco World’s Tribute Show sound better to anyone else? It might’ve been me.
