HAWAIIAN RAINBOW & KUMU HULA: KEEPERS OF A CULTURE

HAWAIIAN RAINBOW & KUMU HULA: KEEPERS OF A CULTURE 17

Mugge wants you to learn about culture.

I'm down to Hula.

“Hawaiian Rainbow & Kumu Hula” is a rather fun pair of documentaries about the Hawaiian music scene. Robert Mugge is an amazing music documentarian and he took the effort to visit the Islands in 1987 and 1989 to craft these amazing tales. Bouncing between conversations with future governor Dr. Neil Abercrombie and Vicky Holt Takamine, Mugge gives the practitioners of Hawaiian music culture the opportunity to speak for themselves. The DVD is a treasure, as the original 16mm elements have been restored to near HD quality. The transfers pop across all sources, while the Dolby track remains clean. The fan response is going to be limited, but I recommend that everyone gives it a shot.
