WENT TO CONEY ISLAND ON A MISSION FROM GOD…BE BACK BY FIVE REVIEWED
“Went to Coney Island on a Mission from God…Be Back by Five” is a touching indie film about reconnecting with childhood friends. While it might strike many as an odd inclusion to the MVD Rewind Collection, I see why it works. This was a movie that debuted at the end of VHS’s glory days and never quite got a major digital upgrade. In fact, this release is the first HD upgrade the film has seen. Given that Schenkman worked on films like Man from Earth later, it’s neat to see where the guy started. However, that doesn’t make this a good movie.
I enjoyed Jon Cryer’s performance and I could always go for a surprise supporting role from Ione Skye. Still, it’s just a movie about two guys hunting down their now homeless friend. If that sounds cool to you, then check it out.
