Director: Greg Barker
“We Are the Giant” is a film that I sat on for a bit. I’ve spent the last two months bombarded with documentaries that I couldn’t quite think straight. Now, I’m just cleaning out the cobwebs to cover my bases. The film is an admirable attempt to use captured video footage and real participants from various locales in the Middle East to tell their stories. It’s great to see people stand up to oppression, but there was something about the whole affair that felt off. I’ve seen the film appear on many Worst of 2014 lists and I can’t figure out why. While it’s not my favorite documentary, something appeared in the narrative that demanded my attention. Yet, I never felt like there was enough to keep me focused.
That being said, I’m kinda done talking about the Arab Spring.
