“Watchers of the Sky” takes you deep into the history of genocide and how the act of eliminating a people has altered history. Whether it’s Armenia or Rwanda, the work of Raphael Lemkin impacts us all today. Samantha Power and Ben Ferencz frame the modern day journey, as we dive deep into the prevalence of genocide.
Over two hours, we learn the history of 20th Century genocide and a repeated call to arms. The problem with that is it is two hours of talking heads saying that genocide is bad. I get that and I understand its importance as a high crime. It’s just I wanted to learn more about the history of the act and a proper understanding for why it keeps happening. We tip-toe around the affair and nothing really pops.
The DVD comes with interviews, extended/deleted scenes and a trailer as the special features. The A/V Quality is astonishing for a recent documentary. The movie lacks major punch-up, but it works for what it is. The Dolby 5.1 track carries the dialogue and the transfer is presentable. In the end, it’s worth a purchase or you can venture below and WIN A COPY!
