THE PLOT THUS FAR
Ten years of peace have passed since Unicron’s destruction, but all of that’s about to change. A mysterious enemy has unleashed the Terrorcons on the Autobots’ cities, gathering energy for plans of total domination. Enter a newly revived Megatron and the universe is in for a war unlike any it’s ever seen between the Autobots and Decepticons. And once again, Earth is caught in the middle!
Can Optimus Prime and his valiant Autobots (alongside their human allies) protect the Earth against this new threat? Find out with the complete series of Transformers: Energon!
WHAT WE THOUGHT
“Transformers Energon” takes place ten years after Unicron was destroyed. Where that falls on the grand Transformers chronology is lost on me. I was always more of a G.I. Joe kid growing up and I tuned out of this show after the animated movie. The stuff with the human Kicker in the show keeps making me feel like I’ve seen it before. But, I haven’t…right? Older readers let me know if we’ve covered it!
The Autobots are starting to get long in the tooth. Too many generations with too many different story resets. What I do like is how animated this series when compared to far more modern interpretations. I haven’t seen fluid design like this with the Transformers since the old Marvel/Sunbow show. Top notch work with fluid parts that work like real machines!
The DVD comes with no special features. But, you get a Play All function that allows you to marathon the show. I know that FOX is currently crushing it with their BD-Java rich Season Mode setup, but I love not having to lift my ass up to keep changing discs or smacking commands into my Harmony Ultimate. I’m tired and lazy, plus I’ve got a stack of discs to review. The A/V Quality is pretty sharp too. This is a great release for Transformers fans. But, I can’t shake the feeling that I’ve reviewed a Paramount set of the same show before.
