SAINTS & STRANGERS

“Saints & Strangers” is yet another look at how the Pilgrims were far more nefarious than we thought. Well, it wasn’t all of them. Some of them were just Religious zealots that made Oliver Cromwell flinch. The rests were soldiers and merchants that saw an opportunity for a new market. Capitalism being what it is leads these Pilgrims to the New World to find their riches. But, will one of their own betray them and their new Indian friends?

The Mayflower is one of those classic bits of American myth. While we’ve heard everything from the elementary school stories to the harsh truth and every cartoon character’s interpretation of what happened; it still seems like we miss the big picture. I’m not saying that Saints & Strangers answers any new questions. But, the stellar cast and willingness to explore divisions among the rank and file was quite intriguing. Seeing as how this film debuted on Nat Geo, most readers probably didn’t see it.

The DVD comes with deleted scenes as the only special features. The A/V Quality is quite amazing for standard definition. Hell, the transfer makes me wish we got a Blu-Ray edition. The Dolby 5.1 track is impressive. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
