MOUNTAIN REVIEWED
“Mountain” is a fascinating documentary. At times, it plays like a Go Pro montage of various climbers. Other times, it feels like a tone poem with carefully selected narration by Willem Dafoe. Also, how about that score from the Australian Chamber Orchestra? Top notch work all around. But, what about the documentary? Well, that’s the thing.
When you examine a documentary about achievements undertaken at daring altitudes with minimal climber input, what is there? The editing is tight, the narration on point and the direction works. I was a bigger fan of the director’s previous work on Sherpa. Most of that boils down to the limited narrative presented here.
