Metrograph, known for its curated cinematic experiences at its Manhattan theater and the At Home streaming platform, is expanding into the world of print with The Metrograph, a new biannual publication designed for cinephiles and cultural enthusiasts. This stylish, carefully crafted publication is set to become a treasured collectible, celebrating cinema with the same passion Metrograph is known for.
Crafted for Collectors: Designed by Matt Willey of the renowned design firm Pentagram, The Metrograph promises to be a visually stunning and thoughtfully curated print object. The inaugural issue, with exclusive cover artwork by legendary cinematographer Ed Lachman, features a wealth of contributions from an impressive lineup of writers, filmmakers, and cultural icons.
Highlights of Issue 1:
- Contributions from novelist Yiyun Li, cartoonist Daniel Clowes, filmmakers Ari Aster, Amalia Ulman, and Ryusuke Hamaguchi.
- Insights from critics Hunter Harris and Thora Siemsen, and writer Lucy Sante.
- Exclusive The Metrograph Interview #1: a rare, in-depth conversation with Clint Eastwood, conducted by critic Nick Pinkerton.
- Actor profiles featuring Steve Martin and Simon Rex, and more.
Editorial Vision: The editorial team includes Senior Editor Annabel Brady-Brown (co-founder of Fireflies Press), Editors Gabriel Jandali Appel (founding business manager of The Drift) and Kelli Weston (critic), and Editor-At-Large Nick Pinkerton (critic and screenwriter of The Sweet East). Their work brings a rich blend of content, including long-form interviews, artist portfolios, thought-provoking essays, and intimate profiles of film technicians, accompanied by striking photography and illustrations.
A Growing Cultural Force: Christian Grass, CEO of Metrograph, shared, “This publication is the next step in our evolution, offering a new way to engage with our growing community across the country. It’s about bringing our curatorial approach to a national audience while staying true to the spirit of 7 Ludlow, the iconic institution we’ve built.”
Annabel Brady-Brown added, “We are thrilled to introduce The Metrograph as a new print film publication. Much like our theater, which became a leading cultural destination at a time when many cinemas were closing, The Metrograph offers intelligent, sophisticated content that celebrates film with panache.”
Availability: The Metrograph is available for pre-order now and will be on bookstore shelves starting December 10th. The inaugural issue is priced at $25 ($15 for Metrograph members with free domestic shipping) and can be purchased directly from Metrograph and bookstores worldwide.
