Madcow is Troma at its best.
“Madcow” is the first Troma film made in South Africa. While that doesn’t mean a lot to most viewers, it’s cool to see Troma’s reach expanding so far. The film is pretty cut and dry about a killer man/cow hybrid that is attacking a hunting lodge. Various weapons are used alongside a fair amount of blood. If you can swing that for an hour and change, this is for you.
The film is pure amateur gore and little on anything else. The lip service paid to PETA seems tacked on, but isn’t that the Troma brand? I can see how this paper thin story might have been a hard sale even for them. But, editing and shifting focus on the material can do wonders. Even if they slam a Jenner joke on the back of the box art.
The DVD comes with an intro from Lloyd Kaufman, a PETA ad produced by Troma, featurette and interviews as the special features. The DVD comes with decent for Troma A/V Quality. Their HD output has been greatly improving, but I expect the standard definition fare to show off its origins. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to Troma fans.
