LOVE THE COOPERS

“Love the Coopers” is this romantic comedy that came out of nowhere and got crazy marketed for about the 10 days leading up to its release. But, everybody went to “Spectre” and “Mockingjay Part II” instead of this. So, what became of the movie that you didn’t see? Did you see “The Family Stone”? Did you want that film to be blander and have a dog in a prominent role? Well, you’ve got your movie.

Diane Keaton and John Goodman are great as the family leaders, but the rest of the cast is a mix of people who seem to be working on different movies. Steve Martin serves as the narrating family dog for some reason, as I guess Lionsgate panicked about this narrative mess right before it got released. While there are a few stellar moments here and there, I can name a dozen movies that serve the same material far better. If I have to TLDR it, imagine if your aunt rewrote The Royal Tenenbaums. That’s this movie in a nutshell.

The Blu-Ray comes with a Digital HD copy, DVD copy, featurettes and music video as the special features. The A/V Quality is amazingly strong for a romantic comedy. The 1080p transfer is quite strong. That being said, the DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track keeps everything upfront outside of environmental jokes. There are some that will purchase it regardless. I’d still push to Redbox it first.
