“Justified” ended its run feeling like a Leonard novel, but not giving you that TV satisfaction. Maybe I wasn’t that interested in Ava or I thought Sam Elliott didn’t get enough attention. Markham is a cool villain that helps to break up the Boyd Crowder show. That being said, the push between Mexico and Harlan never added up to much. If anything, it felt like a necessary step just to make the finale time jump work.
But, I guess that I’m supposed to be onboard with it since I’m from Kentucky. The difference being I’m from Louisville and this is an Eastern Kentucky show. That’s like asking a New Yorker about what it’s like to live in Algeria. Two wildly different areas, but this borders on fantasy. While it was an insanely strong crime drama in early seasons, the soap elements took the show off the rails faster in the last three years.
The Blu-Ray comes with a Digital HD copy, featurette and Blu-Ray exclusive deleted scenes and featurettes. The A/V Quality is on par with the last few seasons. The 1080p transfer is flawless. However, I found that the lossy Dolby 5.1 track was pathetic for a SONY Blu-Ray release. What’s up with that, guys? If you’re a fan, it’s worth a purchase. But, what a kick in the ass to end the series on Blu-Ray with an audio misstep.
