“Helix” enters its second season with a ton on its plate after the cliffhanger that ended Season 1. Julia’s an immortal, other dude is trying to stop the virus and things just aren’t looking well for humanity. It also doesn’t help that the guy from Wings is running a cult that wants to help spread the virus. People get double crossed and secret histories are learned. It’s “Lost” light, but it works.
The action moves out of the Arctic this year and towards a remote island. We get more character work which helps to flesh out the world. Honestly, I thought the first season blew by way too fast. I’d hate to spoil what happens with the virus, as it gives away the end of the season. Still, I’m blown away that SyFy was willing to go there.
The Blu-Ray comes with deleted scenes and outtakes as the special features. The A/V Quality is astonishing for a SyFy show. The 1080p transfer shows a deep range of color and dimension. Plus, the DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track is really boombastic for TV. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
