“Gett: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem” is about the difficulty of obtaining a divorce in Israel. Israel doesn’t provide for civil divorce, so a couple has to go before a Rabbi court to apply for divorce. If one party doesn’t agree, then it doesn’t go forward. “Gett” follows a woman’s three year battle to escape from her nightmare of a marriage.
The movie is so brutal that you’d almost believe it was a documentary. The power of Orthodox Judaism in modern Israel is archaic. But, we’re supposed to give them a pass while passing judgment on the Islamic Republics in the area. No wonder the region hates us.
The DVD comes with a documentary, interviews, booklet and a bit about the Golden Globes as the special features. The A/V Quality is pretty strong. The transfer is pretty flat. The Dolby 5.1 track holds up across all language options. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to the curious.
