Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, is excited to announce the acquisition of U.S. VOD rights for the bizarre sci-fi alien horror movie, The Hyperborean. Starting July 19, 2024, this film will be available to rent or own on all U.S. digital HD internet, cable, and satellite platforms, as well as on DVD.
About The Hyperborean
The Hyperborean comes from the icy realms of the Arctic, delivering a unique blend of horror and comedy. The story follows a seasoned crisis manager who finds himself entangled with a dysfunctional family and their struggling whiskey company. As he attempts to navigate a public relations nightmare involving a triple homicide, an Arctic ice mummy, and a batch of intergalactic moonshine, chaos ensues.
Directed by Jesse Thomas Cook (Cult Hero, Septic Man) and written by Tony Burgess (Pontypool), The Hyperborean has garnered acclaim as an award-winning festival hit. The film stars Liv Collins (The Hexecutioners) and Ry Barrett (In a Violent Nature, The Heretics), with critics praising it as a “bonkers film” that is both “memorable and complex” (Geek Tyrant). The film was also nominated for a 2023 Canadian Screen Award for Achievement in SPFX & Makeup.

Director’s Insight
Jesse Thomas Cook shared his excitement about the project: “After 13 horror movies and tackling zombies, creature features, cults, haunted houses, etc., one of the remaining subgenres I had yet to explore was the nearly forgotten mummy film. I was always fascinated by the disastrous 1845 Franklin Expedition and the discovery of its preserved ice mummies. We based the creature design in The Hyperborean on one of the Franklin mummies buried at Beechey Island. This is our very Canadian ice mummy movie, and we are thrilled to be working with Freestyle on the U.S. release!”
The Hyperborean will be available for rent or purchase starting July 19, 2024.
Don’t miss out on this unique sci-fi horror experience that combines humor, horror, and an unforgettable plot.
