“The Faith Community” strikes this weird area for me. While I appreciate low-budget horror, so much of the film feels unpolished. There are some cool plays with ambient noise and positioning the background actors. However, I wonder if something else could be missing. Something like giving the true threat of the film any sense of purpose. Why is the Messenger kinda successful? What started this cult? I get that it could happen, but so could a lightning strike hitting a gas station.
I feel that this film could’ve worked better as a short. Stretched out how it is shows off ideas that needed to be tweaked. While taking a second stab at a feature is costly, I recommend revisiting a ton of the ideas laid down here. There are plenty of great ideas onscreen, I just wanted to see something that plays tighter.
