About the Film
“The Champions” is a delightful blend of sports, action, and comedy from Golden Harvest, serving as a precursor to the beloved “Shaolin Soccer”. This film comes from the first family of Hong Kong martial arts cinema, the inimitable Yuen Clan.
Synopsis:
Lee Tong (Yuen Biao), a young farmer from an isolated rural community, finds himself in hot water after an indiscretion and decides to head for the big city. There, he meets Suen (Cheung Kwok-keung), an urban soccer player who recognizes Tong’s natural talent and encourages him to try out for a professional team. However, Tong’s path to glory is thwarted by the narcissistic King (Dick Wei), who relegates him to cleaning up after his teammates. Despite the setback, Tong’s love for soccer leads him to join a rival team, setting the stage for an epic final showdown on the pitch.
