DEATH RACE: BEYOND ANARCHY REVIEWED
“Death Race: Beyond Anarchy” finds a Black Ops specialist having to go to prison to enter the death race. He thinks he has what it takes to wipe out Frankenstein. After leaning hard on Danny Glover and Danny Trejo, we have a plot that would not have been out of place in Twisted Metal. The set pieces are bigger than ever and the opening of the film is the best of the series. Then, the rest of the movie unfolds.
Universal keeps plugging away at these Direct to Video movies. However, continuity seems to be going out the window. Why is Frankenstein a dictator now, when he has always been the hero of these movies? There is nothing in the film to support the turn, but it is there clear as day. Director Don Michael Paul is a classic action director and his visual chops are second-to-none. However, the script is lacking and doesn’t inspire me to see a future Death Race movie.
