The Bible gets a sequel...FINALLY!
“A.D. The Bible Continues” is a continuation of the popular Bible mini-series from a few years ago. This installment opens with the Passion of the Christ, but with less gore. Then, we get to see the Miracles and the Disciples do their thing. It’s fairly typical, but I can see some readers not having a full sense of what’s going on. Basically, they’re padding out a mini-series after you open on the big showpiece.
The Bible Continues is one of those slam dunk offerings for people within its wheelhouse. You take a tried and true story, throw in a decent amount of fan pandering and then hope that nobody notices the low key TV acting. The only reason we give things like Jesus of Nazareth a pass is that while it was TV drama, ahem…it had way better talent behind the screen. This is nothing more than a less controversial sequel to a TV event that is far better remembered for the Zimmer score. Well, that and the Devil was made to look like a distant Obama cousin.
The Blu-Ray comes with a ton of featurettes as the special features. For a TV event, that’s still a ton of bonus material. The A/V Quality is amazingly strong with a crystal clear 1080p transfer. The DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track never seems to know when it needs to be loud or soft. In the end, it’s well worth a Christmas purchase for your Jesus lovin’ relatives.
