THE PLOT THUS FAR
Scott Aukerman’s Comedy Bang Bang is a high-spirited weekly get-together between host Scott Aukerman and his funny friends! A heady mixture of characters, games, and interviews with famous celebrities like Jessica Alba, Sarah Silverman, Andy Samberg, and many more!
WHAT WE THOUGHT
“Comedy Bang Bang” returns with a tighter show and better interviews. I know that might make it seem like the first season was awful, but it kinda was awful. Not everyone is funny all at once and podcast antics don’t always translate to the small screen. However, Aukerman has found a footing that mixes improv antics with guests that know how to make it work. That’s not to mention the holiday and musical themed episodes that really sell Reggie Watts’ involvement.
Aukerman and Watts want to set the show up as a parody of how terrible the interview antics of a show can become in the modern era. Plus, Gillian Jacobs might stop by to draft into a future battle. Basically, weird shit happens and everyone stay all chuckles about it. I guess trying to run a free styling parody of terrible media personalities might seem funny on paper, but the show really shines when we get to see the growing Comedy Bang Bang staple of characters. They need to keep bringing back Bobby Moynihan whenever they can get their hands on him. Character work in a vacuum is where this show gets into trouble a lot, but I see them breaking out of that ghetto. Maybe next season will be the perfected one.
The DVD comes with commentaries, deleted scenes and featurettes as the special features. The A/V Quality is very supportive. The Dolby 2.0 Stereo track is more expansive than a lot of recent Dolby 5.1 mixes. Plus, the transfer really kicks it up a notch. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to fans.
