Vampires Take Initech.
“Bloodsucking Bastards” has been described as a vampiric take on Office Space. The difference is that Office Space was funny and this film treats humor like a bonus objective. Fran Kranz does admirable work as a slacker trying to make peace with his girlfriend and calm down his work life. It’s just that vampires have infiltrated the office and he wants to save his way of life. You’ll see a few faces you know and some blood.
However, nothing ever comes together. In a film that lasts under 90 minutes, you don’t get anything other than lead dude must find a way to beat vampires. I get that’s the point of this kind of film. But, when you’re staring down a nearly 100 year tradition of vampires in cinema, you’ve got to have some style about it. This film is modern comic snark in the absence of style. It is quite literally every other horror comedy of its sort that I’ve seen in the last decade.
The Blu-Ray comes with outtakes and a Dr. God audio commentary as the special features. The A/V Quality is strong enough. The 1080p transfer is supportive for an indie feature. The DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track never makes the back channels pop. In the end, I’d recommend a rental.
