Severin Films is set to release Vixen, Supervixens, and Beneath the Valley of the Ultravixens in a stunning new 4K UHD and Blu-ray collection, celebrating the works of cult director Russ Meyer. The nine hours of bonus features spotlight the critical and commercial successes of these legendary films, including their nationwide censorship battles and cultural impact as pioneering American independent cinema. These newly restored editions feature exclusive content from the Russ Meyer Charitable Trust, including insights into Meyer’s cinematic legacy and the making of these iconic films. The three films will be released on January 28, 2025, in collaboration with The Russ Meyer Trust and The Museum of Modern Art, with Vixen restored from the original negative, while Supervixens and Beneath the Valley of the Ultravixens have been newly scanned in 4K.

Vixen, Meyer’s controversial 1968 film, was a ground-breaking work in the sexploitation genre and became a box office hit despite numerous censorship battles. This release includes a wealth of special features, starting with new audio commentary from actress Erica Gavin, who starred as Vixen, alongside archival commentary by Meyer himself. The disc also features a behind-the-scenes featurette that delves into the film’s historic Cincinnati court battles, a fascinating part of the movie’s legacy.

Epic Pictures, the L.A.-based distribution and financing company, has announced the acquisition of Dick Dynamite: 1944, a thrilling and over-the-top action film that promises to bring all the blood, guts, and zombie-slaying action you can handle. Written and directed by Robbie “Steed” Davidson in his feature directorial debut, Dick Dynamite: 1944 stars Olli Bassi (known for Masters of the Air and The Road to Hell) as the titular Dick Dynamite. The film also features Adam Harper, Valerie Birss, Marrakesh Burdette, Shaun Davidson, Graham ‘Scottie’ Scott, and Dick Valentine (of Angel and Mission: Impossible fame), with multiple cameos from famous rock musicians.

Set in the dying days of World War II, Dick Dynamite: 1944 follows the titular hero and his ragtag team of Nazi-killing commandos as they embark on a mission to stop a group of depraved German scientists who are attempting to turn the population of New York into flesh-eating zombies. The film will have a limited theatrical release starting December 6th, followed by its VOD debut on December 10th.

Wicked Shatters Records with Historic Opening Weekend Sales on Fandango

Fandango, the nation’s leading movie ticketing service, is celebrating a major milestone with Universal Pictures’ Wicked, which has broken the record for best opening weekend ticket sales for a PG-rated film in 2024, surpassing Inside Out 2. Not only did Wicked dominate the PG-rated category, but it also achieved the biggest opening weekend ticket sales for a musical since Frozen 2 in 2019, joining the ranks of Beauty and the Beast (2017) and The Lion King (2019) as one of the top three live-action musicals with the best opening weekends of all time on Fandango.
