BASKET CASE 2 REVIEWED
“Basket Case 2” tries to be something amazingly different and it works. However, it cuts down the violence of the original film. Plus, it gives a questionable way to work around that film’s rather grim finale. But, it also evokes “Freaks” and that remains my favorite Browning film. But, Annie Ross’s character in this film feels cartoonish. I’m talking cartoonish compared to Belial.
The only major violence in the film starts after Belial and Duane are sought out by people wanting to get the scoop on what happened in the first film. As their freakish community is uncovered, we find the normals and freaks fighting it out for their basic survival. While this is practically the final reel of the film, it leads to some hardcore carnage. Henenlotter was always a weird guy and I appreciate what he lays down on film. Still, I can’t say that these movies ever really evolved.
They just kept reworking the heart of the original into stylish new formats. Check it out during Halloween this year. You’re bound to know someone that hasn’t seen any of these three films.
