YOU’LL LIKE MY MOTHER REVIEWED
“You’ll Like My Mother” could’ve been a TV movie. But, horror back in that era was so bloodless that it all seems timid now. Honestly, it’s not much of a horror movie or even a slasher. It’s a thriller about a pregnant woman meeting her dead husband’s creepy family. Richard Thomas lurks in the basement as a psycho that his mother tries to keep secret. All the while, you feel for poor pregnant Patty Duke trying to make sense of what’s happening.
I really wish that this would’ve been released when Duke was still alive. As nice as the interview with Richard Thomas was, I would’ve loved to have heard Duke’s thoughts on the film. What could’ve been a weepy domestic terror turns into something far darker about an hour into the movie. A woman’s insight into the matter could’ve made a world of difference. Now, I’m going to go check out the source novel.
