“Spike Island” is about a small-time British band that wants to get their demo to the Stone Roses. Bad things happen, so the band has to work their way to find the Stone Roses. This kind of film has been done many times before, so I can’t say that it’s that amazing. Especially if you don’t care for the Stone Roses.
Emilia Clarke is serviceable in the film, but I guess that’s her standard operating mode when not surrounded by dragons. The film lasts about 20 minutes longer than it should, but that’s due more to the slow British pacing. It’s quite difficult to pin down a film like this, as it’s not terrible. But, it could’ve been a one-off TV special instead of a film. Not everything needs to be a feature.
The DVD comes with featurettes as the special features. The A/V Quality is stunning for a film like this. The transfer is flat, but supportive. The same goes for the Dolby 5.1 track. In the end, I’d recommend a rental.
