“Spare Parts” is a film about an inspirational substitute teacher that starts a Robotics club. The kids go from hating to school to loving robots with their new teacher. It’s not long before the kids become hot shots and eventually have to take on MIT. Will the parents and school support the teacher as he takes the students all the way? If this were athletics, would there even be a doubt?
George Lopez is one of those actors that can’t ever seem to quite connect. He can carry a niche audience, but attempts to branch out feel flat. The efforts aren’t bad, but you don’t see why it had to be him in the role. Hell, Esai Morales comes across as a unique voice in a film that plays rather bland. But, it was inspiring. That’s all that matters, right?
The DVD comes with deleted scenes as the special features. The A/V Quality is fairly typical for a recent release. The transfer is pretty flat. However, the Dolby 5.1 track kicks in impressively. This movie looks like it got a wide release, but I have no idea if it ever played near me. In the end, I’d recommend a rental or stream.
