SLEEPLESS REVIEWED
“Sleepless” feels like it would’ve been home in the 1990s. Equals part “Internal Affairs” and unfocused African American powered action film, everything about this film feels familiar. Whether it is Foxx having his son kidnapped or Michelle Monaghan investigating our leads. So, how did it play? Well, it’s like going to the theaters to watch something that you can already expect to see in the middle of the night on HBO.
Dermot Mulroney plays the main villain and he’s very workable in a role that Fred Thompson would’ve turned down 20 years ago. The rest of the action has Gabrielle Union showing up as modern test market approved Bonnie Bedelia to keep Foxx on target. Then, the Sheriff from Stranger Things shows up to remind you that all actors have to work. Laughs are had, as people got shot in the face and you start to wonder why T.I. is getting so many roles now.
There’s no need to spoil the ending, as you guys are probably going to guess it. If you want mindless January action, this is for you. If not, stay home and watch Football. Take that, Meryl Streep.
